Addis Ababa, April 3, 2008 (WIC) - The federal high court passed yesterday death sentence and life imprisonment on four organized armed robbers.
The Second Criminal Court found all the four defendants, namely Dawit Diriba, Mikael Mezgebe, Birhanu Kibret and Hailemariam Kidanewold, guilty of killing and robbery.
The first defendant, who escaped from jail where he had been serving life sentence, killed two persons and wounded one in collaboration with the other two criminals and robbed money and other materials in the capital city at different times, the court said.
The gangsters also attempted to kill a colonel who was heading a police team tailing them, it was pointed out.
Accordingly, the court sentenced Mikael Mezgebe and Birhanu Kibret and Hailemariam Kidanewold to life imprisonment and the incorrigible Dawit Diriba to death.
