Ethiopia earns over 854mln USD from export in eight months

Addis Ababa, April 1, 2008 (WIC) - Ethiopia has earned 854.5 million USD from export during the past eight months, according to the ministry of trade and industry.

Presenting a report on the activities of the ministry to the House of Peoples Representatives today, Trade and Industry Minister Girma Biru said the produces exported during the stated period exceeded that of same period last year by 32 percent.

Among the produces exported, coffee takes the lions share by 251.1 million USD while oil seeds, cereals and spices earned 217.8 million USD.

The export share of the leather and leather products which used to be below 10 percent has jumped to 36.7 percent following the activities undertaken in search of markets, he noted.

The licensing of 3,761 investors with over 77.5 billion birr capital again clearly demonstrates the growing investment in the country, the minister also pointed out.
