Tigray State creates job to over 9,000 in quarter year

Mekelle, November 19, 2007 (WIC) - Tigray State said it has created more than 9,000 jobs in micro and small-scale enterprises this budget year.

Civil Service Reform and Public Relations Department Head with Tigray Trade, Industry and Transport Bureau, Gizachew Taddis,said there are plans to reduce unemployment by expanding micro and small-scale enterprises and creating jobs to 50,000 inhabitants in the year.

The head further indicated that as a result of the efforts undertaken to realize the plan, more than 9,000 people got jobs in construction, industry, trade and urban farming.

Besides,47 associations with 800 members have signed agreement with Dedebit Credit and Savings Institute to get loan for the procurement of machinery required for production of building blocks and concrete, Gizachew said.

He further pointed out that preparations have been made to issue technical and vocational licenses to more than 20,000 people organized under electricity, sanitation, masonry, alley roads construction and metal works.

Among the associations that opted to engage in construction of houses, two were promoted from grade seven to six while 23 others were promoted from grades nine and ten to 8,the Public Relations Head stated.
