Monument to be erected for Emperor Tewodros in his birthplace |
Gondar, November 12, 2007 (WIC) - The Amhara State Chief Administrator laid cornerstone Saturday for a monument to be erected for Emperor Tewodros in his birthplace of Quara Woreda.
The Chief Administrator, Ayalew Gobeze, said after laying the cornerstone that the state government will contribute 100,000 birr for the construction of the monument. The monument will enable the youth to remember the Emperor's vision to make the country acquire modern technology and realize it in the new millennium using the existing favorable conditions, he added.
Quara Woreda Administrator, Nega Mekuanint, said on his part activities have been underway to erect the monument in Gelego town of Quara Woreda so that the young generation can emulate his nationalism, strong spirit and vision for national development.
He further said farmers, civil servants and investors in the woreda have raised over 60,000 birr, Dashen Brewery 40,000 birr and Gondar town administration 30,000 birr for the erection of the monument.
Speaker of the state council, Dr. Misrak Mekonnen, members of the state and zone cabinet and invited guests attended the ceremony. |
