State Minister says education coverage at different levels showing marked increase |

Addis Ababa, May 07, 2007 (WIC) - The education coverage of the country has shown a significant growth at the different levels, according to State Minister of Education. State Minister Fuad Ibrahim told WIC that enrollment has shown a marked increase as the government has attached due attention to the sector. Accordingly, the enrollment of primary education which was 19 percent 15 years ago has now reached 91.3, while that of secondary education has grown to 33.7 percent from six percent, Fuad said. The number of technical and vocational students that was not more than 3,000 has now reached 112,000, whereas the annual intake capacity of universities has grown from 5,000 to 42,000. The wide gap in access to education between boys and girls has now declined to nine percent, according to Fuad who added that the number of dropouts and repeaters has come down owing to the efforts exerted to address the problem. He finally called upon education experts and cross sections of the society to enhance their contributions to the sector as the results achieved in ensuring quality and equity of education are the outcomes of all actors. |
