Annual investment growth of Tigray State reaches 25 percent

Mekelle, May 4 (WIC)- The annual investment growth of Tigray State has reached 25 percent owing to the efforts being exerted by the state government to encourage investors, Tigray Investment Office said.

Office Head Megos Mesfin told WIC today that the 1,115 investors with combined capital of 7.8 billion birr have been licensed this budget year alone. There were only 517 investors with 4.6 billion birr aggregate capital up until 2004,he recalled.

The industrial zone which was confined to Mekelle town has now expanded to nine towns and infrastructures met, the head further stated.

The office has put a system in place that enables investors to secure land within two days in the industrial zones. This has also contributed to the growth in investment flow, he added.

Half of the over 1,000 projects licensed during the past four years have entered production, creating jobs to 45,000 people, it was learnt.
