Dejena Endowment to construct modern export abattoir with 50mln birr |

Mekelle, May 02, 2007 (WIC) – Dejena Endowment disclosed that it has finalized preparations to construct a modern abattoir, which would enable it to export meat, with 50 million birr in Mekelle town.
Abergele International Animal Resource Development Share Company Plc Acting Head with the Endowment, Seyoum Mezgebe, said today that the construction of the abattoir will commence soon on over five hectares of land.
Two water wells have also been sunk and modern equipment procured from Germany, he added.
According to Seyoum, the abattoir envisages exporting meat of 1,160 livestock, sheep and goat daily to the Middle East.
Market centers have therefore been established in neighboring woredas of Afar and Amhara states to purchase animals.
The factory will go operational next April, he said, adding that it will open market to people engaged in animal husbandry and fattening.
Upon going operational, the factory would create 50 permanent and more than 150 casual jobs, it was learnt. |
