Lalibella town making preparations to host tourists coming for Millennium celebrations |

Lalibella, March 06, 2007 (WIC) – A committee set up to facilitate conditions for hosting foreign tourists who come to Lalibella town for the Millennium celebrations to visit the famous rock hewn churches of Lalibella has begun activities, according to the municipality. Municipality Manager Melaku Abebe told WIC yesterday that the committee would embark upon facilitating conditions that will make the town conducive to tourists and celebrate the event colorfully. The committee is set up as many tourists are expected to visit the rock hewn churches in the town during the millennium celebrations, he indicated. The committee would also undertake the task of keeping the sanitation of the town, tourist attractions and hotels, and finalize the ongoing construction works, the manager said. It is also undertaking various activities in collaboration with the public and NGOs operating in Lasta Woreda. The potable water project under construction with an outlay of 32.8 million birr would begin rendering services in the Millennium, the manager further indicated. |
