Mekelle University conducting research works with over 30mln birr

Mekelle, December 15, 2007 (WIC) – Mekelle University has reportedly been undertaking various research works that enable the country to score rapid economic development with more than 30 million birr budget.

University President, Dr. Mitiku Haile, said at an annual research projects workshop yesterday that the university has been conducting the 280 researches in collaboration with local and foreign universities since last fiscal year.

Of those works 45 were finalized, he said, adding that scholars of the university are undertaking researches in agriculture, natural resources, industry, mining and energy, water resources and education.

In addition to speeding up the development activities of the government, the research works also assist the efforts to solve the fundamental problems of the society, he indicated.

Tigray State Chief Administrator, Tsegay Berhe, said on his part the university should further enhance its contributions to the growth of the country through conducting researches that take into consideration the objective problems of the country.

Various research papers were presented at the day-long workshop which was attended by senior government officials, including the State Minister of Water Resources, scholars and researchers of the university.
