Over half million unemployed youth successful in ventures: Oromia Chief Administrator

Adama, December 4, 2007 (WIC) – Some 90 percent of the 600,000 unemployed youth given loan to engage in various fields of work in Oromia State during the past three years have become successful, according to the State Chief Administrator.

Oromia State Chief, Abadula Gemeda ,said at a work ethic development conference here yesterday that all members of the community should work in collaboration without discriminating between jobs to become successful and enhance productivity.

Abadula said more than 600,000 unemployed youth who were given training and seed capital during the last three years have become successful in various fields of work.

He noted that many people discriminate jobs and keep themselves idle as work ethic has not developed in the community. There should be a strong commitment to change this backward attitude and succeed in all fields of work, the State Chief stressed.

Activities are underway to engage more than 100,000 youth in micro and small enterprises this budget year, he said, adding that the community should cultivate work ethic and enhance production to succeed.

State Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Zenebu Taddese, said on her part the community should play meaningful role in reinforcing national work ethic and abolishing reactionary traditions.

Relevant officials of Oromia State, zonal and town officials, representatives of religious organizations, employers and employees were in attendance of the two-day conference organized by CETU.
