Bomb blasts in Addis injure four people

Addis Ababa, March 07, 2006 (WIC) - The Addis Ababa Police Commission disclosed today that three bomb blasts in Addis Ketema and Kirkos sub-cities wounded four people and caused minor damages on properties. Of the victims three have returned to their homes after receiving first aid, it was also learnt.

According to the Commission, the first attack targeted the Lalibella Restaurant, opposite the Addis Ababa stadium, at around mid-day, while the second explosion took place after 40 minutes destroying a small book shop and a spare parts shop behind the Addis Ababa Cross Country Bus Terminal.

A physician at Betezatha hospital who treated the victims ,Dr. Desalegn Biadgilign, stated that of the two male and two female victims three were immediately released while the fourth one is still under medical treatment in the hospital.

Of the four victims ,Mekdes Habtemariam who talked to WIC reporters and is a resident of Debrezeit town said that she was injured while standing near the restaurant.Girma Nigusse,a computer techinician also stated that he was waiting for friends near the restaurant.

Later in the afternoon, a third blast occurred in a student's cafeteria which belongs to the Hotel and Tourism Training Institute around Mexico square. The blast has left no casualty except minor damages on the building and a bus that was parking outside the premises of the institute, Police said.

Police has announced that it has tightened security in the city and is investigating the terrorist acts. It has also called on the public to cooperate with the police in its effort to put these forces under control.The Commission condemned the acts of what it termed anti-peace forces who have conspired to create the impression that peace does not prevail in the capital city.
