Japanese Ambassador pledges support to construction of high school in Adwa town |
| Adwa, December 21,2005 (WIC)-The Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia has pledged support to a high school being built by the Adwa Town Administration and the public with an outlay of over 16 million birr. While laying a cornerstone for the school yesterday, Ambassador Kenjiro Izumi said his government is willing to work in collaboration with the Tigray regional government in the education sector development efforts underway. The high school, whose construction would begin in the middle of January and get finalized in August, 2006, could enroll up to four thousand students, it was learnt. Chairman of ''Hibret Leaddis Limat'', an association established by natives of Adwa and its environs, Tesfay Zibelo said on the occasion that the public in the town and its environs are ready to provide assistance for the construction of the school initiated by his association. According to him, the construction of the school was necessitated by the fact that the only high school in the town has been forced to enroll over seven thousand students thus suffering from quality of education and crowdedness. He said the Japanese government has so far donated 800,000 birr for the construction work, while over 1.2 million birr has been secured from members of the association and patriots. Mayor of Adwa town, Araya Mered called on the occasion for the further strengthening of cooperation with the Japanese government and expressed gratitude to the contribution made for the development of education. |
