Health Science College campus built with over 100mln birr goes operational |
| Mekele, December 17,2005 (WIC)-A Health Science College campus built at a cost of over 100 million birr here has gone operational. Health Science College Vice Dean with Mekele University, Dr. Sadiq Taju told WIC today that the university has designated the newly built third campus for Health Education. In the campus named Aider are being trained 180 student health officers from Tigray, Benshangul-Gumuz, Afar and Gambella States,he said,adding that the 240 Medical Science and Pharmacy students would also be transferred at the end of this month. The Aider campus, besides training health professionals, provides medical services at its newly constructed referral hospital and carries out researches on various health problems, Dr. Sadiq stated. According to him, efforts are being exerted to make the referral hospital, which is expected to give better health services to five million people in the region and neighboring regions, go operational in the current year. The government has approved 80 million birr additional budget for the electro-mechanical, electric power and water facilities as well as medical and other equipment so as to make the hospital go operational, while an agreement to get 450 beds and medical equipment in donation has been signed with a humanitarian organization, he added. When the remaining classrooms, library and cafeteria buildings go operational, the campus will have a capacity to enroll up to three thousand students, the Vice Dean said. |
