Our country has begun preparations to host the 16th African Athletics Championship several months ago. Though it is the first time for the country to host such kind of Championship, it has been commended from different sides. Ethiopia has achieved vital success in the international stages.
Athletes and coaches of various countries have expressed delight for the hospitality of city residents. Most express that they are happy by the preparation for the championship as well as the service they are availing since their arrival here. Some even commented that the country has the capacity to host international championships if some conditions are fulfilled.
International Association of Athletics Federations President Lamin Diac expressed that the preparations are indeed beyond his expectations. This is of course the outcome of efforts of many stakeholders over the past two years.
The Championship is also a great opportunity by which the athletes can celebrate the new Ethiopian millennium with our people. Hence, it is an opportune moment for us to promote the rich history and positive image of our country.
The discipline demonstrated by sports-loving people of the country in particular added color to the championship. This need to be kept with the same momentum so as to make the stay of the athletes and the coaches in Addis truly memorable.
